Who we are
A Tale of Culinary Passion and Dedication
Our story started from a trip to Jamaica, where a newfound love for Caribbean food led to the creation of Royal Onion. While our co-founder, Corey, grew up around Caribbean culture with his family living in Antigua, for our founder, Niesha, this was a new world of flavors. Her first taste of the authentic jerk chicken and oxtail was transformative, and it planted the seed to create the dishes we serve today at Royal Onion.
Niesha has always been entrepreneurial minded and she’s always had a love for cooking new recipes. She thought about starting a food truck for years, but after trying authentic Caribbean food, her mind was set on bringing a new culture to our community. After countless nights in the kitchen, Niesha faced many challenges, which usually left her caught between the excitement of nailing a flavor and the frustration of feeling like it was missing something. With the help of Corey’s family, she finally refined and perfected the recipes that are now the heart of our menu.
Fuelled by the dedication to share this new menu
Royal Onion food truck came to life in 2017. Our first demo happened right outside Niesha’s home in 2018, which led to the successful run of our Royal Onion on wheels. Soon after that, and with Corey’s support, Royal Onion transitioned from the roads to our new permanent home in Alexandria.
Today, our restaurant’s doors are open for those seeking a true Caribbean experience. More than just a dining spot, we offer a place to explore the world of authentic Jamaican inspired food. Join us, and let the flavors of Royal Onion transport you to the heart of the Caribbean.
